The Opium Wars

The Opium Wars also known as the Anglo-Chinese Wars, were the climax of trade disputes and diplomatic difficulties between China under the Qing Dynasty and the British Empire after China sought to restrict illegal British opium trafficking. It consisted of the First Opium War from 1839 to 1842 and the Second Opium War from 1856 to 1860.

    2. The British wanted to compete with the Chinese, so they introduced the opium to their trade, which was like a drug, and sell it in china.

  7. 1) Because the Chinese empire controlled the world's biggest economy and it enjoyed a favorable balance of trade with the West, receiving great quantities of money to pay for its silks, porcelain, and above all, tea (which was bought in great amounts by the British, who by 1800,consumed 10000 tons of tea each year)
    2)Britain had found a product to reverse the balance of trade: opium, grown on the hillsides of newly conquered India. The British invested in the manufacture and distribution of the drug, trading it for China's tea.

    1)The trade was favorauble to China because they exported lots of tea and porcelain to Britain, so they recived much money from the exportations.
    2)The British started to export opio to China, so their trade of balance increased.
