  8. 1) Because Britain was the major European producer of Iron and Steel (the most critical industrial products and that time) , and Germany, once it came into colonial possesion, remained as the second great power, and was frustated by the conflict between the industrial matter and the territorial influence, so Germany felt necessary and wanted as much colonies as the British or even more.
    2) First, they relucted alliances and prefered being isoleted, ("Splendid Isolated") under the protection of its navy, and confident of a balance of power between the European countries. But finally even Britain was worried about Germany's growing , and they reached an agreement with France and Germany.
    3) The assesination of the Autro-Hungarian heir by the Serbians. After some conflicts Austria declared war to Serbia, and Russia who is like Serbia's big brother, joined to help her. But Germany joined to help Austria, and France to help Russia. Then the British sided with Russia and France.
    4) It was enunciated by Sir Edward Grey, a British statesman who said this on the eve of the First World War. I think he ment that all he conflicts were finished and that there wouldn't be more conflicts for a long time.
